THE SECRET BETWEEN US

THE SECRET BETWEEN US by Barbara Delinsky was read for the Pub 2008 Challenge.

From the book jacket:

Nothing will break this mother-daughter bond. Not even the truth.

Deborah Monroe and her daughter, Grace, are driving home from a party when their car hits a man running in the dark. Grace was at the wheel, but Deborah sends her home before the police arrive, determined to shoulder the blame for the accident. Her decision then turns into a deception that takes on a life of its own and threatens the special bond between mother and daughter.

THE SECRET BETWEEN US is an unforgettable story about making bad choices for the right reasons and the terrible consequences of a lie gone wrong. Once again, Barbara Delinsky has delivered a riveting study of family and a superbly crafted novel, perfectly targeted to reading groups and fans of provocative fiction.

This was the type of book that makes you think, and I like books like that. A book about guilt and expectations and how they can destroy a person. Deborah did what she felt was right, but never considered the effect it would have on Grace and others.

I've read one other book by Ms. Delinsky, and will be looking for more.

I used to read Barbara Delinsky books a lot, years ago, but haven't read any of hers in the last couple of years. I have several of her older books here that I could probably re-read and not remember them :) I'll have to try to get this one at my library sometime, thanks for the review Lynne!

Have a great day :)

I can't keep up with you and all the books you've been reading lately! I've hardly read one in the last week or so but playing with kids seems to take most of the day. :)
When I get home & settled I hope to see about some books for me to join your challenge.

I don't know if my psyche is up to reading a book about mother-daughter relationships and guilt and expectations. I should have it on hand in case there is ever a day I feel like I'm doing okay. I'll need to read it immediately because I'm sure the feeling will pass quickly!
